Jelly Donuts

Over at Gottesblog, Fr. Eckardt makes the point that Mary being “full of grace”  means that she too is a sinner in need of God’s mercy.  Of course Rome would say that the gratia is infusa, that is, that she is so filled with the quality called grace that she is actually able to remain sinless.

Here is an extended theological analysis of this view : Poppycock.

Incidentally, I call gratia infusa “the jelly donut theory of salvation.”  After all, unless the jelly is infused into the donut, then the poor jelly-less donut cannot reach its full donut potential and fulfill its donut destiny.

Replace ‘donut’ with ‘person’ and ‘jelly’ with ‘grace’, and you have a summary of the Roman plan of salvation.  For what it’s worth.
